Kevin, a Red Seal Chef with over 30 yrs in the industry. Kevin spent the last 12 years honing his skills and expanding his network. As a Chef Technician at Fanshawe College, he was responsible for helping to shape hundreds of culinary students from all over the world. This also fed his passion for learning and affording him the opportunity to vastly grow his cooking repertoire to include recipes from all over the world. Classically trained in French cuisine, followed by a decade stint as a sous chef in a revered Italian restaurant, Kevin has mastered his skills in the kitchen. After some gentle persuasion by his wife and a good look at himself, The Garden’s Gate Restaurant became the obvious next step.

Sheina is also classically trained in French cuisine and service. She spent her first 15 years in the workforce exploring all facets of restaurant and foodservice. Including the 2009 season at Red Lodge Resort, located on Manitoulin Island. As time passed, Sheina would look back on with such pride and peace for an entire decade. A self-proclaimed guide of light and spreader of love. Sheina was delighted to find this sacred land that would bring her full circle. Sheina has owned and operated 3 businesses in the last decade and prides herself in the knowledge and networks gained. She had always dreamed of bringing her love of business, culinary experience, passion for nature, and devoted partner together. The Garden’s Gate has done just that.

Kevin and Sheina Hemstreet, along with their 2 young boys moved to Manitoulin Island from London, ON to attain a better lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of such a move. With a combined 5 decades of experience in the service and food industry, a profound love of nature, and a passion for making people happy, The Garden's Gate Restaurant was a clear decision. So they packed up their home and moved seven hours north, renovated the on-site apartment, and got to work on the next chapter.
